Jan 19 Fasting & Prayer Day 17 Devotional: Win the flesh vs spirit battle
For forty days and forty nights He fasted and became very hungry, Mt 4:2
Jesus’ physical body & senses fed Him information from the physical realm that could have been contrary to what His Father was saying to Him through the Holy Spirit. He therefore trained to deaden Himself to the control of His senses by fasting and praying.
If Jesus needed to subdue His senses, I, His follower, need to do same – to be victorious in the flesh vs spirit battle
I say then: Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh. For the flesh wars against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh…Now the works of the flesh are evident, which are: adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lewdness,… hatred, contentions, jealousies, outbursts of wrath, selfishness, envy, murders, drunkenness, revelries, and the like; of which I tell you beforehand, just as I also told you in time past, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God, …But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law. And those who are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit. [Now since we have chosen to walk with the Spirit, let’s keep each step in perfect sync with God’s Spirit*, Gal5:16-25
